Perth Family Beaches

Perth weather is always warm and the beaches patrolled by Surf Life Saving Australia guards, so make sure you and the kids always swim between the flags.

Your trip to Perth, Western Australia will be filled with swimming, snorkelling, water sports, as well as winery visits in the Swan Valley, and Perth art galleries and museums.

Take young children to the Mettam's Pools, between Sorrento Beach and Trigg Point. This rock pool will have the kids fascinated and is excellent for learning to snorkel. There are many great spots for snorkelling along the Sunset Coast, just north of Perth city. Sorrento Beach is a very safe swimming beach for all and is popular locally with young families. Another still-water spot is The Basin, a pool carved from the reef. Relax in this wonderful saltwater pool, with the waves in the distance, soaking up the sun.

North Beach is a good family beach and Cottesloe Beach is usually safe if you avoid the groyne. Cottesloe is one of the busiest beaches in summer and has wonderful shady pines and grassy areas for your picnic.

For older children, go to Rottnest Island for some genuine fun and exploration. As it is a car-free zone, hire a bike and explore some of the sixty beaches. Keep an eye out for the quokkas, cute Australian marsupials which shelter under the bushes during the day.
